Hoover Dam Tour Specifications

A trip to Hoover Dam will be a memorable one when the visitors are prepared and know what to expect. There are various security regulations and all vehicles that cross the dam will have to undergo inspection.

The current entry fee of the Dam tour is $30 per person. The tour is not accessible to people in crutches or wheelchairs and children under 8 years are not permitted. Power Plant tour is accessible for children and charges $9 for children aged 4-16 years and $11 per adult, with concessions to senior citizens and active U.S military personnel. The payment can be done with Cash, MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover. There are no reservations required and the tickets are issued on first-come first-served basis.

Located 35 miles south of Las Vegas on the U.S 93, it is situated about 8 miles from Boulder City. Parking charges are $7 at the garage near the visitors centers.

The tour inside the dam is broken up into several components at various locations and last to a total of about 2 hours. This format allows the guests to choose whatever they want to visit. A video show depicting the history of the dam, a 500-foot descent into the power plant generators housed at the base of the dam, a peep into the diversion tunnels, standing on the top of the 30-foot pipe, observation deck with its panoramic views of the Colorado river and Lake Mead and the view into the mechanical components of the dam. The Dam tour includes all the components of the Power Plant tour and also entry into the inspection tunnels, seepage gallery and a set of antique stairs deep inside the dam.

The construction of Hoover Dam Bypass was completed in 2010, and has reduced the traffic on the dam and also protect the dam and the water bodies from dangerous spills or explosions.
